Art Contest
2009 featured Ginny's 7th annual congressional art competition, which brings together the best student artwork from across the 5th District.  The winning entry will be hung, along with entries from other congressional districts throughout the country, in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol Building.  The winner will also be invited to attend the opening exhibit in Washington, D.C., with other winners from across the United States.

1st Place:  The 2009 winner is Anastasia Magloire, daughter of Philip and Stephanie Magloire of Land O’ Lakes.  Her winning digital piece is entitled “Reflection.”  She is the student of Mary Jane Walker at Land O’ Lakes High School and is in the 10th grade.


2nd place: Kristina Armstrong, daughter of Kelly Partridge of Holder.  Kristina is a senior at Lecanto School of Art at Lecanto High School and her photographic work is entitled “Missing Piece.”  Her art instructor is Jack Calbeck.

3rd place: Karissa Yob, daughter of Julia A. Yob of Zephyrhills.  A 10th grader at Land O’ Lakes High School, her piece is entitled “’Bear’ Your Soul.”  Her art instructor is MaryJane Walker.

1st Place: Curtis Styles, a senior at South Lake High School in Groveland.  His winning piece is entitled “Self-Portrait” and is done in graphics.  He is the son of Megan Hall and is the student of Art Instructor, Cheryl McLean.


2nd Place: Simple Flores, a senior at Lecanto School of Art at Lecanto High.  Her piece is entitled “The Last Petal” and is done in graphite.  She is the daughter of Elsie Flores and Dominick Bellipanni of Hernando and is the student of Art Instructor, Connie Phillips.


3rd Place: Laura Setter, a senior at Lecanto School of Art at Lecanto High.  Titled “Little Red,” her entry was done in digital photography.  She is the student of Art Instructor, Jack Calbeck.



Winners of the 2007 Contest

1st place: 

Danielle Shortt is a senior at Hudson High School.  Her piece is entitled “A Touch of Autumn” and was drawn with colored pencils.  Danielle is the daughter of David & Dena Shortt of Hudson.  Her art instructor is Clay Verge.



2nd place: 

Alejandro Gaxiola is a junior at Pasco High School in Dade City.  His piece is entitled “Mexicana” and is done in pencil.  He is the son of Catalina de Leon of Dade City.

3rd place:

Andraya Avery is a junior at Lecanto School of Art at Lecanto High School.  Her piece is entitled “Striped Jackets & Splats,” and is done in Digital Photoshop 7.



Winners of the 2006 Contest

The 2006 Congressional Art Competition has been completed, with three worthy young artists honored for their work at a ceremony in the Brooksville City Hall.  The names of the artists and description of their works or art are included below.  Please be sure to watch for inforamtion about thr 2007 competition early next year.

1st place:  Corey Crapser, son of James & Barbara Crapser of Lecanto.  His winning piece is entitled “Pepper Vase” and is in charcoal pencil.  He is a senior at Lecanto School of Art at Lecanto High School and his teacher is Connie Phillips.






2nd place:  Stacy DeLeon, daughter of LaNell Arnold of Zephyrhills.  Her work is entitled “Your Future” and in graphite.  She is a senior at Zephyrhills High School and her teacher is Debroah Gillars.







3rd place:  Stan Kruslicky, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Kruslicky of Homosassa.  His digital photograph is entitled “Golden Light”.  He is a senior at Lecanto School of Art at Lecanto High School and his teacher is Jack Calback.
