Beginning
her third term as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Ginny has
built a reputation as an independent and fearless leader with the ability and
authority to get things done on behalf of her Florida constituents. Since her arrival in 2003, Ginny has emerged
as one of the most outspoken, hard-working and dynamic members of the House.
An active
member of the Financial Services, Homeland Security and Veterans’ Affairs
Committees in the 110th Congress, Ginny’s arduous work on these panels is a
testament to her drive, tenacity and ded
ication to the people of the 5th
District.
On the
Veterans’ Affairs Committee, she serves as the Ranking Member for the
Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
This leadership position allows her to keep a watchful eye on
legislation that impacts the healthcare and services we offer our nation’s
veterans and heroes, many of whom reside right here in the 5th District. In fact, Ginny represents the district with
the second highest population of veterans of any Member of Congress!
On the
Financial Services Committee, Ginny serves on the Subcommittee on Capital
Markets, Insurance, and Government-Sponsored Enterprises and the Subcommittee
on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.
As the House Committee that oversees our insurance and financial
markets, Ginny has worked tirelessly on solutions that lower the cost of
homeowner’s and business owner’s insurance throughout Florida.
A Member
of the Committee on Homeland Security, Ginny serves on the Subcommittee on
Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection, as well as the
Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, Science, and Technology. She looks forward to playing an active role
in Committee deliberations as they shape America’s domestic preparedness and
security future at home and abroad.
During her
two terms in the House, Ginny has focused her legislative agenda on issues
directly affecting 5th District residents.
In the 110th Congress, Ginny will continue to fight for a national
catastrophic insurance fund, increased healthcare access for veterans,
protecting Social Security and Medicare for current and near retirees, and
helping to secure our nation’s borders.
These issues are important to the 5th District and will remain the focus
of Ginny’s work in Congress.
Aside from
her committee work and hefty legislative schedule, Ginny is the Co-Chair of the
Unexploded Ordinances Caucus, a bi-partisan group of Members of Congress that
seeks ways to clean up former military t
raining sites like the Brooksville Gunnery Range. Ginny looks forward to helping other
communities find and clear munitions left in their neighborhoods and
residential areas.
Ginny also
serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, a
bi-partisan caucus that helps raise awareness of adoption and foster care
issues. An adoptive parent herself, she
has worked with other Members to increase the tax credits for adoption and help
find legislative avenues to increase adoption rates in Florida
and the United States.
Throughout
her tenure in the House, Ginny has returned home every weekend and on all
extended breaks from Congress’ normal legislative session. She has said repeatedly to friends and
constituents, “I’ll never fall in love with the place you sent me to work. I work in Washington,
but my home is here in Florida.”
Ginny is a
native of Albany, New York and an alumna of The State College
System. She received her Master’s Degree
in Public Administration from Russell Sage College
and holds a Labor Studies Program Certification from Cornell University. She is a mother to three adult daughters and
a grandmother to three grandsons and one granddaughter. Her husband, Harvey, is a retired New York State trooper and together he and Ginny
own an MG and are members of the Nature Coast British Car Club. They reside in Brooksville with their Bentley
- but don’t be impressed; Bentley is their dog!
